a) Fluted Cartons

Corrugated cardboard is essentially a flat sheet of paper that has a corrugated wavy sheet of paper over it. There are actually many different types of corrugated cardboard. The first is single face cardboard, which doesn’t have the same levels of durability, but it’s cheap to make and gives extra protection to packaged products.

The single wall board is the most commonly used style of cardboard and it has got five different styles of flutes. The flute is an inverted S shaped arch that is within the type of material used to make corrugated boxes.



a) Type of Fluted Cartons

  • A-Flute is 1/4 in thick and is used for Fragile products due to its better cushioning properties.

    •        Flutes per linear foot : 33

           Thickness - 1/4"

  • B-Flute is 1/8 in thick, flatter surface for higher quality printing and die cutting. Due to lower arch heights and more number of flutes it results in greater number of contact points on liners. As a result of this it provides a stiff, flat surface for high quality printing and die cutting. These provide excellent puncture and crush resistant properties and hence recommended to be used as pads,dividers and partitions.

    •        Flutes per linear foot : 47

           Thickness - 1/8"

  • C-Flute is 3/16 in thick, commonly used for shipping cases. This is the most widely used flute size as it offers good crushing resistance, good stacking strength along with better printability properties. Used for packaging of various goods with various G-factors.

    •        Flutes per linear foot : 39

           Thickness - 1/16"

  • E-Flute is 1/16 in thick, and act as boxes with great strength .Due to the number of flutes, it has greater crush resistance and flat surface for high quality printing application. These boxes are used for packaging of cosmetics, fragile glass and delicate items.

    •        Flutes per linear foot : 90

           Thickness - 1/16"

  • F-Flute is 1/32 in thick and has been developed for small retail packaging. These are used for speciality packaging, Point-of-purchaee displays and cosmetic packaging.
